Last week the AGILE 2011 conference took place in Utrecht (The Netherlands). Several members of the 52°North communities were actively involved in the conference by giving presentations or organizing workshops.

Monday was the workshop day of the conference. ESRI organized together with 52°North a workshop on GI Research and instruction mixing commercial and Open Source Tools. In this workshop Bastian Schäffer gave a presentation on coupling the 52N WPS with ArcGIS and the ESRI REST API; Arne Bröring/Simon Jirka talked about Sensor Web projects that make use of commercial as well as Open Source software. The Integration of Sensor-Web and Web-based Geoprocessing was the focus of a workshop of the SWSL group from IfGI. The Testbed research/PTB workshop was also co-organized by the 52°North Geoprocessing Community.

In addition, there were several innovative presentations held by members of the 52°North Communities:

  • Connecting R to the Sensor Web. Daniel Nüst, Christoph Stasch, Edzer J. Pebesma
  • Unmanned Aerial Vehicles as Mobile Multi-Sensor Platforms. Matthes Rieke, Theodor Foerster, Arne Bröring
  • The SID Creator: A Visual Approach for Integrating Sensors with the Sensor Web. Arne Bröring, Felix Bache, Thomas Bartoschek, Corné P.J.M. van Elzakker [manuscript] [final] [slides]
  • RESTful WPS; Thedor Foerster, André Brühl, Bastian Schäffer
