The project’s aim is to define rules to restrict access to SOS contents on the operation and parameter level. An introduction to the project can be found in the previous blog post. This goal is achieved with a nice graphical user interface to enable the admin user to manage permissions for a particular enforcement point, which is the connection point for the client instead of the original SOS endpoint. OSGeo-Live 6.0 is released. For this release,  all OSGeo-Live java applications have been successfully migrated to OpenJDK 7. Migration to OpenJDK was driven by Oracle’s announcement that including Sun Java in Linux distributions, such as Ubuntu, or OSGeo-Live, is no longer allowed. In addition, the Xubuntu base has been upgraded to 12.04 LTS (Long Term Support).

With this version, you can try running instances of the following 52°North service implementations:

  • 52°North SOS version 3.5 Just go to GeospatialWeb ServicesStart 52°North SOS to start testing. Firefox will open with three tabs:
    • a client to test the SOS
    • a quickstart page to get things started
    • a documentation page about the 52°North SOS implementation
  • 52°North WPS version 3.0 Just go to GeospatialWeb ServicesStart 52°North WPS to start testing:
    • a simple client to test the WPS
    • a quickstart page to get things started
    • a documentation page about the 52°North WPS implementation
  • 52°North WSS version 2.2.0 Just go to GeospatialWeb ServicesStart 52°North WSS to start testing:
    • a client to test the WSS
    • a quickstart page to get things started
    • a documentation page about the 52°North WSS implementation

Just give it a try and test a lot of geospatial applications without the need to install any of them. The OSGeo Live DVD contains software for the following categories, and it is all FOSS:

Online demo resources are available on the demo servers of the communities:

I hope you enjoy testing our SOS, WPS and WSS.

52°North seeks student applications for the Google Summer of Code

52°North is thrilled to announce that it has been chosen to be a mentoring organization for this year’s Google Summer of Code (GSoC)!  GSoC is a global program that offers students stipends to write code for open source projects. Google pays the stipend recipient $ 5.000,- for 3 months of software development for 52°North this summer. A mentor from a 52°North partner organization supervises the student during this period.

As such, we now look for students who are interested in writing code for various 52°North projects. The overall goals are to improve usability of products and to extend the user base to new domains.

If you are interested in writing code for software developed by the 52°North communities, please have a look at https://wiki.52north.org/bin/view/Main/GSoC2012. Student Application opens on March 26, 2012 at 19:00 UTC. The deadline is April 6, 2012 at 19:00 UTC.

This summer, flip bits not burgers with 52°North!
