GeoNode and KomMonitor well received
In March, a small group of 52Ners made its way to Hamburg for the FOSSGIS 2024. The conference provided a broad spectrum of presentations about open-source GIS, projects and AI. At our booth, we unpacked our portfolio and engaged in many interesting discussions about state-of-the-art open-source technologies. These also carried over into the evening event (Is there any wine left?).
Quo vadis GeoNode?
The Birds of a Feather GeoNode-DE met Thursday morning. Lots of familiar faces and several newbies attended the user meeting. We shared our experiences with the migration from GeoNode v3 to v4, creating an alternative project set-up using a customized geonode-docker-blueprint and the need to improve the overall developer experience. We agreed to meet more regularly and scheduled quarterly remote meetings until the next time we meet in person at the FOSSGIS in our beautiful hometown Münster (yeah!). It was a great, intense and long meeting!
New KomMonitor Features
Sebastian Drost presented current KomMonitor developments, such as virtual accessibility analyses for socio-spatial needs planning. This met with great interest among urban and social planners. After his talk, he gave a live demonstration of the new accessibility features in KomMonitor to interested participants at our booth. Discussions about different use cases for urban and social planning lead to several exciting ideas for future developments.
All in all, the conference was like a big, open source GIS family reunion. We saw many familiar faces and ran into many companions of past and current projects.
We hope to see you all again next year in Münster!
