I’m happy to announce that we got three new articles accepted for publication:
- Diaz, L., A. Bröring, D. McInerney, G. Liberta & T. Foerster (2013, accepted): Publishing Sensor Observations into Geospatial Information Infrastructures: A Use Case in Fire Danger Assessment. Environmental Modelling & Software. [paper]
In this article, an approach is presented to improve the registration of sensors and the publication of their observations via the Web Processing Service (WPS) and the Sensor Observation Service (SOS) interface. Therefore, those services are combined with our Sensor Interface Descriptor (SID) concept. The approach is evaluated by applying the developed approach to the example of integrating in-situ weather observations into the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS) for assessing fire danger in Spain.
- Malewski, C., A. Bröring, Patrick Maué & K. Janowicz (2013, accepted): Semantic Matchmaking & Mediation for Sensors on the Sensor Web. IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing (JSTARS). [paper]
In this work, we introduce our implementation of a rule system that supports complex mediation and mappings of sensors to Sensor Web services. This matchmaking system is part of our Sensor Bus project. This work equips us with the semantic capabilities for achieving real sensor plug & play.
- del Rio, J., D.M. Toma, T.C. O’Reilly, A. Bröring, D.R. Dana, F. Bache, K.L. Headley, A.Manuel, D.R. Edgington (2013, accepted): Standards-based Plug & Work for Instruments in Ocean Observing Systems. IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering (JOE). [paper]
This work deals with sensor integration in the Ocean’s domain. We describe an approach to plug & play sensors by combining our Sensor Interface Descriptor (SID) concept with the new OGC standard known as the PUCK protocol. PUCK enables storage and retrieval of the SID file from the sensor itself. We demonstrate and evaluate our approach by applying it to three commonly used marine instruments in the OBSEA observatory test bed.
