Last Monday, Arne went to Hamburg to attend the 2nd PESOS workshop and gave a talk about our Sensor Interface Descriptor (SID) developments. The workshop participants were primarily sensor technology manufacturers and vendors as well as researchers from that domain. The workshop aimed at initializing a discussion of how SID can be reasonably combined with other standards such as IEEE 1451 and the emerging PUCK protocol. The overall goal for the participants is to elaborate a concept for plug & play of marine sensors. The figure below sketches how the 3 discussed technologies could work together to enable an on the fly integration of sensors with the Sensor Web.
Video SOS Documentation Page
Find a new documentation site on the 52°North wiki describing the Video on Demand SOS (VOD). It is embedded as an alternative implementation of a Sensor Observation Service (SOS).
Due to heavy re-factoring and change in the architectural concept of the VOD this site describes the current status of development. However, how-to and installation description are still lacking, but will follow as soon as possible.
Combination of 52°North Sensor Web and Geoprocessing technology
A presentation was given about Cloud Computing and Geoprocessing at this years “Internet & GIS” seminar at the University of Armed Forces in Munich. It turned out, that another speaker (Phillip Winkelmann from the University of Armed Forces) gave a presentation about “Automated Evaluation of OGC compliant Sensor Services”, where he combined a 52°North SOS with a 52°North WPS hosted by the University of Darmstadt to interpolat real time data. The results were stored directly in a WMS. Quite impressive to see complete service orientation with some of our technology in use.
