The enviroCar app makes use of various 1st and 3rd party open source libraries to provide various functionalities along with a seamless experience to users. My goal is to update all the deprecated libraries currently implemented by replacing them with superior alternatives or updating them to their latest stable release.

The UI for the Arctic Sea settings project has 2 goals. The first goal is to create a REST API on top of the Faroe API, which can eventually be used for performing CRUD operations. The second one is to create a Web frontend using JavaScript or any framework of JavaScript (e.g., Angular/React) to perform CRUD operations on the JSON settings file.
I completed the first goal during the project’s first phase. The next half of the project consists of creating a UI frontend for the Arctic Sea Settings to create, update and delete them using the REST APIs.more >

On exploring for further opportunities, I came across this amazing open-source project enviroCar. enviroCar Mobile is an Android application for smartphones that can be used to collect Extended Floating Car Data. The app communicates with an OBD2 Bluetooth adapter while the user drives. This enables read access to data from the vehicle’s engine control. Data is recorded along with the smartphone’s GPS position data and the driver can view statistics about his drives and publish his data as open data. The latter happens by uploading tracks to the enviroCar server, where the data is available under the ODbL licence for further analysis and use. The data can also be viewed and analysed via the enviroCar website.
Although the enviroCar App is currently in a fully functional state, there are some issues that need to be resolved. For example, users are able to create artificial types of cars with arbitrary attributes, which leads to collecting wrong data. The data base layer is currently based on sqlbrite, which has been depredated. Thus, it must be reimplemented. The project also lacks some features that will be very helpful to users.

I applied to work on this Google Summer of Code project in 2021, but unfortunately wasn’t selected. I am really grateful to be working on it in 2022!
In the current scenario, the SOS uses an proprietary implementation of the ServiceSetting defined by the Faroe API and saves it in a.JSON format. The data sent/retrieved is completely unorganized. Whenever the GET request is performed, all the settings stored in the implementation are returned, including data in other groups. In addition, there is no clear frontend to perform operations like update or delete whenever the data is saved. Therefore, Faroe would need a UI frontend to perform all the operations easily.
