Welcome to the midterm update on my progress with the WeatherRoutingTool tool as part of Google Summer of Code 2025.

In the initial phase of GSoC 2025, my primary focus has been on refining and enhancing the genetic algorithm utilized in the WeatherRoutingTool (WRT) for ship route optimization. My methodology began with a precise definition of the optimization challenge, followed by a thorough comprehension of the algorithm’s existing implementation. I also established a performance baseline to facilitate quantitative assessment of subsequent improvements.

Angular Migration of the KomMonitor Web Client

When I started working on the KomMonitor project, I inherited a partially migrated codebase from a previous GSoC attempt. The goal was ambitious: migrate the entire KomMonitor Web Client application from AngularJS to Angular while maintaining functionality and improving the overall architecture. The existing codebase presented a complex web of tightly coupled services and components that had grown organically over time.

Researchers, decision-makers, practitioners, and stakeholders recently gathered in Rimini, Italy for the 7th European Climate Change Adaptation Conference (ECCA). This vibrant platform showcased cutting-edge research and innovative solutions while fostering collaboration and sharing knowledge and best practices. For three full days, participants exchanged research findings, innovative policy developments, and practical implementation experiences for a climate-resilient society. 52°North joined consortium colleagues to present and discuss work being done on climate services (in I-CISK) and disaster risk management (in DIRECTED).
