enviroCar is a citizen science community that gathers, distributes and analyses floating automobile data for traffic management and environmental purposes. The enviroCar app for mobile devices offers functions including track recording, track exploration, and track uploading as “open data” to the server for analysis. Real-time information about the recorded tracks, including their length and distance, is also provided.

enviroCar Mobile is an Android application for smartphones that can be used to collect Extended Floating Car Data. A Bluetooth OBD2 adapter is used to communicate with the app while driving. This enables read access to data from the vehicle’s engine control. The data is recorded along with the smartphone’s GPS position data. The driver can view statistics about his drives and publish his data as open data. The latter happens by uploading tracks to the enviroCar server, where the data is available under the ODB licence for further analysis and use. The data can also be viewed and analysed via the enviroCar website.

The OGC Maps API provides maps and map data through dynamically rendered electronic maps. The API has multiple endpoints, each providing geospatial data using a variety of parameters.
In this blog post, I’ll be citing the work I did during this year’s Google Summer of Code (GSoC) under the guidance of my mentor Mr Benjamin Pross. For more detailed information, please visit my introductory blog post, midterm blog post, GitHub repository, and the API wrapper documentation.
This project aims to develop a terminal client and an API wrapper for the REST API endpoints in Python. These include the styles, collections, and the maps endpoint as a whole.

The UI for the Arctic Sea settings project had 2 goals. The first goal was to create a REST API on top of the Faroe API, which can eventually be used for performing CRUD operations. The second one was to create a Web frontend using JavaScript or any framework of JavaScript (e.g., Angular/React) to perform CRUD operations on the JSON settings file. I completed the first goal during the project’s first phase and the next half of the project during my final phase.
