Sensor Data Access for Rasdaman – Mid Term Blog Post

The first goal for the Sensor Data Access for Rasdaman project was to implement a JDBC driver for Rasdaman and to create a Hibernate dialect, which uses the JDBC driver to connect Rasdaman as a data storage backend to the 52°North Sensor Observation Service (SOS). This was the solution we came up with for the first part and we think this was a good choice, because now, at the mid term evaluation, we have a JDBC driver and a Hibernate dialect – both of which support multidimensional array queries.

52°North SOS 4.0.0 Final Release

After two years of hard work, the Sensor Web community is pleased to announce the 52°North SOS 4.0.0 Final Release ! This release benefits from experience gained over the past few years and implements improvements and features requested by SOS operators and users.

Javascript is a very popular programming language. Once started to make web sites more dynamic, it has grown into a powerful and fast language, with several runtime environments (client- and server-side!), and support for procedural, functional, object-oriented, and modular programming paradigms. How cool is that? Moreover it is easy to learn and the basics are very simple. But most importantly, it can be executed by any web browser today! Therefore it naturally is used widely also in 52°North communities, and the Sensor Web community is no exception. However, for many good reasons, the existing Sensor Web browser client utilizes Google Web Toolkit (GWT), which compiles Java to browser-specific Javascript, and utilizes server side rendering.
