ArcGIS is the central tool to handle and derive geoinformation in many applications. However, the standard kriging capabilities only include a few covariance functions and hide the estimation and fit quality of the semivariogram to a large degree. R is less appealing for working with maps, but features a variety of statistical, i.e. geostatistical, extensions. In this showcase, we exploit the semivariogram modeling and kriging capabilities of the gstat R package. In order to give the user visual control over the estimation procedure and the model selection, we use the Shiny framework to realize an interactive graphical user-interface for the semivariogram fitting step. This tool hides the entire R implementation from the user, but delivers a good deal of the geostatistical power to perform kriging.more >

Caching for Sensor Web REST-API
There are only two hard things in Computer Science: cache invalidation and naming things.
Phil Karlton
Caching is a common technique to improve the response time of a data source. A cache is a temporary storage for a most often acquired data. Caching is widely used in a proxying software such as Squid. The caching of network responses can provide a huge improvement to the response time. The latency of a network resource is much more greater than of a memory or a disk resource [Fig.1]. That’s why the caching is a “must-have” feature of network proxies.
52°North @ Firmenlauf 2017
In spite of the dampness and cool temperatures, it was actually great running weather for this year’s Firmenlauf this past Saturday. 52°North showed up with 2 teams for the 5k race. Once again we had some great results! Team 1 came in eighth among the Mixed Teams and Team 2 finished with an honorable 85th place among the Men’s Teams (see results below)!
Congrats to all!!!more >
