Once again, 52˚North had the excellent opportunity to participate in Google’s Summer of Code. We had four awesome projects, all of which were quite successful – so a big thanks to all our students and mentors! This was my first year with 52˚North and Google Summer of Code. I am pleased to report that it has been a positive and valuable experience for me and I hope the same can be said for the students and other mentors.

enviroCar UX Design – Final Blog
This is my final blog post regarding my work on Google Summer Of Code 2014 for the enviroCar Android app.
A short introduction
EnviroCar connects to your car with the help of an OBD II adapter and records important data, such as CO2 emission, fuel consumption, engine load, etc. It helps a user record, learn about and potentially improve his or her driving characteristics. Additionally, the data from all enviroCar users is published as open data. Therefore the data for a particular city or area can be analyzed with respect to CO2 hot spots, traffic flow, and other driving statistics. More details about the app can be found in my first and mid-term blog posts. Here are other resources which track my development in the project:
Sensor Data Access for Rasdaman – Final Blog Post
My GSoC project in 2014 is split into two important parts to better track the project’s evolution and for easier task management. For “Sensor Data Access for Rasdaman”, the two parts of the project were significantly different but aimed at the same result: to integrate Rasdaman as a data storage backend to the 52°North Sensor Observation Service (SOS) implementation. The evolution and results of the first part of the Sensor Data Access for Rasdaman project were presented in the mid-term blog post and on the project’s wiki page. The content of the wiki page contains all the weekly reports, not only the ones corresponding to the first seven weeks. This final blog post gives a brief presentation of the results of this last GSoC phase, but also provides all the resources for the project’s installation and describes some of the problems met along the way.more >
